Halloween 2014
What a fun Halloween this was! We didn't do anything fancy or even go out trick-or-treating, but we went and visited Jared's parents for the evening to watch movies, hand out candy, and have some fun. Our little family did a fun Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed costume. Jared was Casey Jones, the vigilante fighter who wears a hockey mask, I was April O'Neil the reporter, and Brynn was her own little Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle complete with pink headband so that you know she is a girl! Haha! Here are a few pictures. We had a good time.
Newborn Pictures
In October, when Brynn was about 2-3 weeks old, Amanda offered to take some newborn photos for us. She did a great job and we are grateful for the memories we have of Brynn being so small! The bonnet she is wearing in some of the pictures was made by me and the cocoon she is wearing in another set of photos was made by Amanda's sister.
October- Brynn's 1st Month
October was an amazing, yet difficult month all at once. Being her first month on Earth, I'm sure it was even more difficult for her; learning new sights, smells, tastes, and touches. It was a month filled with many sleepless nights, pain, and frustrations but also a month filled with unconditional love, service from others, and excitement. We are so blessed to have experienced these new things with Brynn during October.
In terms of her growth and development, Brynn basically slept through October. She had her moments when she was quite fussy and we couldn't figure out why. We visited a family friend, Joan Emery, who is a naturopath and is great at helping you figure out what's going on in your body with as little as a touch of her hand. She helped us determine it could be digestion issues causing her to fuss so we were given some herbs and that seemed to help.
Another thing we struggled with was breastfeeding. Until later in October, we didn't find out that one of the reason we were struggling was because Brynn had a tongue tie that was preventing her from eating properly resulting in a frustrated and pained Mama. Due to the pain I had, my milk supply also decreased which added to Brynn's unhappiness because she, unknowns to us, wasn't getting enough food. That began our journey in visiting public health nurses and lactation consultants. At the peak of trying to get things back to normal, I was nursing, pumping, taking herbs and medications, and trying to get enough sleep to keep me sane. This was definitely not how I saw my nursing experience going.
One awesome thing about October is that my mom was able to stay with me for a couple weeks and help out. I didn't realize how much of a help she would be but I definitely don't think I would have been able to do it without her. She helped with meals, grocery shopping, laundry, and stayed up during the wee hours of the night to get Brynn to go to sleep. I am so blessed to have a mom like I do.
Of course, I also couldn't have done it without the help that I got from Jared. Once Brynn was born, he turned into a new man. He helped with dishes, cleaned the house, and watched Brynn so I could get some sleep. He really is a wonderful Dad.
